About our community
Bit Phoenix Software is a game development community started by Michael VanOverbeek in August of 2017. We develop free and open-source games and try to promote a welcoming atmosphere where anyone can freely discuss games, technology, programming and game development.
History and associations
Our roots are in that of the ShiftOS community. In August 2017, ShiftOS as a project was discontinued, and the team re-emerged as Watercolor Games. In late 2018, the team renamed itself to Bit Phoenix Software to better reflect the team's history.
The community shares many members with bits & Bytes, the modern-day reincarnation of the community started by Philip Adams in 2013. As such, we share a similar Community etiquette and staff team with the aforementioned community. In a way, both communities work together as one bigger community.
